New Music Round-Up: 06/11/20

Happy Friday! This week we’re being treated to shiny new albums from disco diva Kylie Minogue and the world’s biggest girl-band, Little Mix. Plus, the debut EP from exciting rising artist Bree Runway. Let’s get listening!

Little Mix – Confetti

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Little Mix’s highly anticipated 6th studio album Confetti arrived this week, and didn’t disappoint. Containing singles “Break Up Song”, “Holiday” and “Sweet Melody”, the album seems to have a running thread of breakups and finding new love. With only two slower tracks on the record, the project mainly consists of fast-tempo bops (which is exactly what we all need in 2020, right?). “Break Up Song” and “Sweet Melody” are some of the album’s highlights, the former for it’s fierce 80’s vibe and stellar production, and the latter for its infectious chorus and out-of-this-world music video.

Kylie – Disco

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Disco, Kylie Minogue’s 15th studio album, secured the #1 spot on the UK album chart this week, marking Minogue as a record-breaking artist, being the only person to have a #1 album in five consecutive decades in the UK. The Aussie princess of pop proves why she deserves the title with Disco, a whole record reminiscent of 80’s dancehall music that shines with it’s fresh, crisp production. “Dancefloor Darling” is an album highlight, a feel-good, fun anthem that you can imagine being played at any and every party.

Bree Runway – 2000and4eva

Rating: 3.5 out of 5.

London’s latest breakout star Bree Runway dropped her long-awaited debut mixtape 2000and4eva this week, after teasing us with singles for almost a whole year. Though there are only 3 brand new songs to feed our ears with, the body of work as a whole is incredible. “Gucci”, the first single released, is an underrated masterpiece of a song, with its earworm chorus and sassy verses leaving you hitting the repeat button. “Little Nokia” is arguably the polar opposite, a rock-n-roll esque track with hyperpop production and an immense music video to match. With this stellar debut under her belt, 2021 is looking very promising for Bree Runway.
